KALAWEWA / THE LEGEND & THE HISTORY
Kalawewa (Sinhala – කළා වැව), built by the king Datusena in 460 A.D., is a twin reservoir complex (Kalawewa & Balalu Wewa) which has the capacity to store 123 million cubic meters of water. This reservoir complex has facilitated with a stone made spillway and three main sluices. From the central major sluice, a 40 feet wide central conveys water to feed thousands of acres of paddy lands and ends at the historical capital Anuradhapura city tank Tissa Wewa meandering over 87 km at a slope of 6 inches per mile and is another wonder of primeval hydraulic engineering facility in ancient Ceylon.

Sri Lanka Beyond is a company run by three friends who are professionals in what they do best, curate travel and adventure-based experiences. We cater to both local and tourists, operating a large portfolio of experiences and adventure-based activities around Sri Lanka, taking things off the beaten path. Kayaking Adventures Sri Lanka is the pioneers of kayaking experiences and adventures in Sri Lanka, operating in numerous rivers and lakes. We conduct single day and multi-day expeditions.
FACILITATOR
Our kayaking team has years of experience paddling most of the lakes and rivers in the country. The team is trained in advanced first-aid / CPR & AED, lifesaving and swift water rescues, high rope rescue, advanced vehicle recovery, and firefighting. They also possess knowledge of local flora and fauna to give you a better understanding of the surroundings.
We use only certified gear and equipment, purchased directly from the local agents with a warranty and international certification.
The guides will include trained locals and ex-navy / army special forces personnel.
ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
Whilst offering you scrumptious Sri Lankan meals prepared by an appu with many years of experience, we can also cater to your specific culinary needs too. You will be staying at a bungalow that has a history spanning for many decades and also a place that has direct connection to the whole Kalawewa legend. You will be offered AC accommodation on a twin sharing basis.
